Strawberry picking in and around Toronto is a summertime tradition and a source of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in southern Ontario. In most cases, you'll have to leave the city proper to go pick your own berries, but it's a totally delicious and fruitful experience.
Here are some farms to go strawberry picking near Toronto.
Brantwood Farms
Family-owned since 1891, this farm is coming back this year to give you another season of fresh strawberries. They're open 8 a.m to 7 p.m daily, and picking will be available at 89 St George Rd. Pre-paid baskets will be charged by the litre, with a minimum purchase of 1 lite per person. Pre-booking will not be available and masks will be required.
Stonehaven Farms
This picturesque farm in Milton is offering PYO strawberries on a walk-in basis only. No resos will be accepted, and they open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m daily. You must purchase your berry baskets prior to entering the field. Each basket allows admission for 2 adults and 2 children.
Downey's Farm Market
Grab your face mask and head to the fields for strawberry picking at this Caledon farm seven days a week. They're open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Baskets will be provided at the entrance and all fruit is paid for prior. No reservations are necessary, as they operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Reesor's Markets
At this farm, market and bakery in Markham, you can pick your own berries by making an online reservation. Picking is allowed between 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 7 a.m to 5 p.m Saturday. Your reservation price includes a new basket for you to fill with strawberries to take home.
Forsythe Family Farms
Pick your own strawberries is the big draw at this family farm in Uxbridge. An online COVID-19 screening questionnaire must be completed before your visit. To minimize touch points baskets must purchased before entering the patch. The price is based on the cost of a full basket.
Organics Family Farm
This Markham farm hours for strawberry picking are weekdays from 9 a.m to 6 p.m and weekends from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. This year they've reopened with a number of COVID-19 procedures in place including asking pickers to wear masks and limiting time to about an hour.
Andrews Farm
Nestled southeast of the Niagara Escarpment, this Milton farm boasts 35 acres of strawberry fields. No pre-booking is required for PYO, walk-ins only and admission is paid upon entry. Strawberries at $4.25 per pound.
Linton's Farm Market
Make your way to Oshawa is discover sprawling market. Similar to other farms this year, PYO strawberries will not be done by weight. It will be done by container. Payment will be made before entering the field. Everything is final sale, no refunds.
Murphy's Farm Market
Located just over an hour north of Toronto is where you'll discover this Alliston farm. Here you'll need to book your strawberry picking outing in advance and pay an admission fee of $3.50. Picking will be charged by the litre, before entering the field.
Barrie Hills Farms
The farm in Springwater is open for strawberry picking Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All guests must purchase either a 2L and 4L basket in order to board the wagon and go picking. No reservations are required.
