If you’re guilty of being sucked into reality cooking shows, then I’m sure you’re no stranger to the past season of MasterChef Singapore. We were blessed with the discovery of great talents such as Genevieve Leee who now has her thriving Sourbombe Bakery business and Lennard Leong who’s an in-house chef for Miele.
And then we now have great news from alumni, Aaron Wong, as he just announced on his Facebook account that he’s venturing into the hawker industry with Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway, opening on 29 August 2020 (which also happens to be his birthday!). The stall, which will open early till he sells out, will be located at Telok Blangah Crescent Food Centre and if you’ve been following his cooking videos online, I’m sure you’ll love his rendition of this comforting dish.
For those curious about the reason behind this new challenging venture, he expresses his personal love for all things local, in his Facebook post. He also has decided to “put my money where my mouth is and support the hawker culture in Singapore with my first humble little hawker stall.”
He also quips, “I’m no expert when it comes to actually running a hawker business and I don’t even know if it will work but I guess there is only one way to out, and that is what this little stall is all about. A traditional little dish with no fanfare that tastes and looks every bit as old school as can be but done in a whole new way.”
In case you’ve been wondering what the ex-MasterChef Singapore contestant has been up to, he’s been working on photography projects and has explored his love for diving even more. If you happen to live nearby, or want to taste Aaron Wong’s creation, be sure to head to the stall early because I reckon there will be a snaking queue for his mee hoon kway!
Date & Time: Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway will open on 29 August 2020 | 9am till sold out (Tue to Fri), 8am till sold out (Sat & Sun), Closed on Mon
Price: TBC
