I’ve always been a fan of Cedele for their wellness-centric baked goods and cooked dishes that still manage to be flavourful and delicious.
So, even though their most recent creation, the Prawn Otah Cookie (S$9.80 per box) created quite a mental conflict of flavours in me, I’m still willing to try it out.
Over the years, Cedele has produced many exciting favourites like the Pandan Gula Melaka Cake for Chinese New Year 2019 and the Walnut Cinnamon Roll in early August 2020.
Whether it’s to celebrate an occasion or simply for the joy of new creation, Cedele can do it all.
The new Cedele Prawn Otah Cookie is part of their collaboration with Singapore Food Festival 2020. In their bid to incorporate the local favourite otah (Indonesian grilled fish cake) in their creation, Cedele has reimagined it in crunchy cookie form.
The savoury cookie is a product of traditional Nyonya spices like chilli, lemongrass, shallots and kaffir lime leaves. On top of that, it includes coconut milk, dried prawns and almond flakes for a punchy flavour with a hint of butteriness.
The reinterpretation of such a savoury dish in a dessert might sound odd to you. I must admit, I also think it takes getting used to. But isn’t that part of the Singapore Food Festival spirit?
The Cedele Prawn Otah Cookie comes in boxes of 10 at S$9.80 per box. Get them from selected outlets and their online store while stocks last. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
