Almost a year after the opening of a sister venue to Noosa’s award-winning Miss Moneypenny’s under the Avani apartment tower in Broadbeach, The Good Time Group welcomes the addition of renowned restaurateur Adam Dundas-Taylor as Executive Chef for the $8 million mini dining precinct which also includes Fat Freddy’s Beach Bar and Diner and The Rimini Room, an exclusive private dining and function space.
Dundas-Taylor comes to the group as the former restaurant owner of Fire Cue (Nobby Beach) and Barbacoa (Bali), as well as chef in Nobu Mayfair, Jamie Oliver’s Restaurant 15 and the Hugo Group.
“Come and immerse yourself in the atmosphere, with fine food and wine as well,” Mr Walsh tells us. “We’re known for our cocktail offerings, but we’ve taken the food up a couple of notches as well,” he said.
“Miss Moneypenny’s is all about fine dining quality without the fuss,” said Mr Walsh. “We had been looking for the right location and we’re really happy to be here. Now our focus is on delivering expectations.”
“Broadbeach has always been a food and beverage destination,” he said, adding that while the past couple of years had proved a test to some restaurants, he believed that new openings would drive more traffic to the area.
The stylish 200-seat restaurant, created by Sydney-based Paul Kelly Design, is classic and timeless, earthy tones of tan and grey offsetting the warmth of timber. Emerald blue couches bring a splash of colour, a striking bar spans one side wall, the open kitchen at the back shows off the chefs at work, with the other two sides of the restaurant open to gardens and an alfresco area for dining in the sun. What the venue achieves is ‘capital city elegance meets Gold Coast chic’.
Miss Moneypenny’s menu also brings elegance and style to the Broadbeach dining arena. Well accustomed to both Gold Coast and international taste, Chef Dundas-Taylor’s menu features flavour-packed dishes influenced by his passion for fire and charcoal, Spanish-style BBQ techniques and globally-inspired Mediterranean fare geared to ‘social dining’.
Seared Wagyu Carpaccio, Coral Coast Barramundi, twice baked cauliflower, and succulent slow cooked lamb with spicy chermoula and burnt lemon feature amongst some of the delicious new dishes on offer. For the sweet-tooths, the decadent chocolate fudge cake and macadamia nut tarte are a must!
What many will be just as interested in are the bar offerings: a range of international beers with a splattering of local brews, smart wines ranging from sessionable to rare both by the glass and bottle, classic 80s cocktails with a twist of new, such as the Peppered peach iced tea cocktail, an original Raffles Hotel recipe Singapore Sling, or a Citron meringue served in a coconut shell (in a nod to Surfers’ renowned 80s venue The Shell Bar).
Miss Moneypenny’s Broadbeach also has a host of weekly dining experiences to lure locals to come out and play.
Escape for a two-course mid-week Prix Fixe lunch special for $49 per person, afternoon Oyster and Spritzer sessions from 3pm-5pm Monday to Friday of $2 shucked to order Blackman Bay Oysters and $12 Spritzers enjoyed best on the sundrenched deck and soon to be released ‘Chef’s Seven’ share plate menu. Begin with share plates of Char-grilled Ora King Salmon, Hand-picked sandccrab in a sweetcorn veloute, crisp Hiramasa Kingfish Ceviche with pickled jalapeno, pomegranate and a citrus dressing before moving on to Wagyu Rump Cap in a porcini emulsion with pickled eschalots and crispy kale accompanied by truffled fries.
With elegance, class and such a range of dining and drink experiences on offer, there’s a firm promise here that Miss Moneypenny’s will be a ‘go to’ for Gold Coast diners and the upmarket party set alike.
