Gelato Labo – Artisan Gelato Cafe With Unique Flavours Like Kyoto Shiso & Yuzu Jelly, At West Coast

Those who resides in the West would be thrilled to hear about this new artisan gelato spot which has opened at West Coast, Faber Drive.

For those who haven’t heard of Gelato Labo, their first outlet is a hole-in-a-wall takeaway ice cream store which is located at Jalan Besar, featuring an assortment of handmade artisan gelato with unique exotic flavours.

It’s second outlet at Faber Drive is a premise with dine-in capacity, and is next door neighbours with GLASS Roasters, Lee’s Taiwanese, as well as a few minutes’ drive to Simple Cafe located in the same vicinity.

With a bigger space, they also offer MORE exciting gelato flavours here compared to Jalan Besar.

I mean it when I say exciting – all their gelato concoction have unique flavour pairing made from fresh fruits, herbs and spices and there wasn’t any flavour which I would deem as “normal”.

Possibly one of the up and coming gelato store that offers an exhaustive range of bold gelato offerings.

Some of the newer flavours which previously didn’t came across at Jalan Besar were such as Watermelon Mint & Chia Seeds, Naval Orange & Chrysanthemum, Colombian Cold Brew & Cookie Butter Bits, Caribbean Rum & Charred Pineapple and Yamanashi Peach & Lemongrass.

Flavours are on seasonal rotating basis and single scoop from Premium range goes for $5 and Gourmet range for $6.

I was rather intrigued by the Sakura Smoke, Artichoke & Pear Compote, which has a paring of fruity with mild nutty undertones, followed by a light smoky after taste.

Another flavour which left an impression was the Kyoto Shiso & Yuzu Jelly. This Japanese herb-flavored gelato has fresh earthy and citrusy notes, coupled with sweet yuzu jelly bits embedded within for the bite texture.

Their gelatos are generally rich and dense in flavour, and best eaten with their freshly made crispy lavender-infused cones.

Though the lavender flavour could be muted by the gelato flavour itself occasionally.

Gelato Labo shares its dine-in premises with GLASS Roasters, so one can enjoy best of both worlds by indulging in a scoop of sweet treat, at the same time get your caffeine fix over a cup of coffee.
