The ‘Circuit Breaker’ measures might have put cafe-hopping adventures on pause, but staying home doesn’t mean you can’t get your brunch fix. Loved by many, this cafe is perpetually crowded with students and office workers alike; Lola’s Cafe is tucked along a row of shophouses a stone’s throw away from Kovan MRT.
A small but cosy locale, this backyard cafe promises to serve food and drinks made with great love, it is no wonders it is so popular among hungry diners even during this period of time. Their delivery menu caught my eye with their plethora of food offerings ranging from brunch to desserts.
With all the fuss and raves, I was very much looking forward to trying their Honey Paprika Crispy Wings (S$10), Ultimate Croissant (S$15), Bacon & Mushroom Truffle Cream Linguine (S$16) and Lola’s Chocolate Cake (S$7).
The Ultimate Croissant features generous servings of scrambled eggs and ham sandwiched in a crispy and flaky butter croissant, served with a garden salad on the side. The croissant was perfectly crisp, buttery and delectably flaky. It paired immaculately with the fluffy and creamy well-seasoned pile of scrambled eggs.
The thick slices of ham added a touch of savoury whilst the garden salad with balsamic dressing melded well with other components of the dish to create a well-balanced and zesty tang, adding just the right touch of sweetness. The contrasting flavours complemented one another beautifully, every mouthful was satisfying and refreshing on my palate.
A perennial favourite amongst diners, the Honey Paprika Crispy Wings features chicken wings drizzled with sweet honey sprinkled with paprika flakes. The chicken pieces were deep-fried and crispy, with the honey adding a tinge of sweetness.
It was well-marinated and the interior was juicy and tender with a subtle sweet and spicy kick. Serving as a superb starter, I could keep eating these delicious wings all day.
The Bacon & Mushroom Truffle Cream Linguine came in a generous and large portion. It was creamy and I thoroughly enjoyed the earthy taste of the sautéed mushrooms.
However, it was little on the dry side and tasted rather jelak after a while. It was slightly too rich and overbearingly creamy for my liking, so it might be wise to split this dish with your family.
Last but not least, Lola’s Chocolate Cake. It features double chocolate sponge filled with chocolate ganache and crumbled hazelnut biscuit. A definite must-try for chocolate lovers, it was decadent, moist and not cloyingly sweet. The hazelnut biscuit was light and sweet crisp, allowing this light and fluffy cake to win me over.
Need a hearty and satisfying brunch? Lola’s Cafe will fit the bill. From comfort food to utter indulgence, their huge and enticing selection is sure to suit all tastebuds.
They have churned out and put together a couple of bundle deals that you can enjoy in the comforts of your home, there’s no better opportunity than now to spend some quality time with your family and bond over delicious food.
