Step 6: Add in the remainder of diced onion, black pepper, oyster sauce, and water as needed until it has a thick consistency. Use low heat, so that the moisture doesn’t boil off too quickly.

Step 7: Fry patties with some cooking oil. Be sure to let the bottom cook through before flipping the patty, to prevent the patty from falling apart.

Step 8: One by one, dip the patties into the sauce and sandwich them in between 2 pieces of bread. Add on some sliced onions.

If the patties are a little fragile, I’d recommend using a spoon to spread the sauce on the patties, instead of dipping them. I have to say, this burger is really heavy on the onions, so if you’re not a huge fan, you might not be that enthused about taking a bite.

While the sliced onions are added raw like how McDonald’s does it, feel free to grill the onions very lightly if that’s your preference. Personally, I find the sharp, pungent bite from raw sliced onions provides an additional dimension to the burger.

The sauce was surprisingly close to McDonald’s rendition, albeit a tad saltier and thicker in consistency. I’d recommend adding more water to the sauce as you’re simmering it, and to keep the heat as low as possible.

For all you McDonald’s fans out there, this is one recipe you simply have to try. Once you master it, you won’t have to wait agonisingly for the Prosperity Burger—just make your own.

Try it out, and let us know if there’s anything you’d change about the recipe!
