10 NEW Cafes In Singapore July 2020 – Autumn-Themed Korean Cafe, Japanese Cafe At Outram With Hokkaido Softserve

DFD’s monthly NEW Cafes Guide scheduled to be published on the 1st of every month took a break for 2 months due to the ‘Circuit Breaker”.

While we have announced quite a number of F&B closures, let us not forget about the NEW cafes that have started operations during this challenging period.

Quite a number listed here opened their doors only for couple of days before CB happened, and they had to scramble suddenly to find delivery options or close. There are some others that got their space and could only do something about it during “Phase 1”.

There were many other unseen challenges such as finding new suppliers, changing food to deliverable options, getting packaging, renovation works done half-way, settling staff headcount and welfare… but one thing in common, they all made it through with a positive mindset and passion.

While café hopping is not that encouraged, if you find a café near you or want to support them via delivery, have a look and show some support. (Oh yah, there is also April’s cafe guide which is pretty-NEW too.)

Kreams Krafthouse
32 Maxwell Road, #01-07 Maxwell Chambers, Singapore 069115
Tel: +65 9620 7739
Opening Hours: 8:30am – 10:30pm (Mon – Sat), 10am – 5pm (Sun)

Autumn-Themed Korean Café At Maxwell Chambers
When I visited this undiscovered café called Kreams Krafthouse at Maxwell Chambers (near Tanjong Pagar MRT station), I couldn’t help feeling how spacious, how well-decorated this space was. And the attention to details.

Beautiful space. The cafe just focuses on two items for now – coffee and scones.

Other than the usual Latte and Long Black, there are more Korean-café oriented drinks such as Dalgona Coffee (don’t have to whip yourself), Creamy Choco, Sweet Potato Latte, Vanilla Latte, and Cloud Latte.

The Dalgona Coffee was not quite like the typical ones circulating on the net or made at home, and was included with house-made toffee crisps.

Give it 5 minutes to melt before enjoying the sweet Korean candy taste and mild bitter finish. Kreams (Maxwell Chambers)

The Food Peeps Coffee & Deli
20 Maxwell Road, Maxwell House #01-11 Singapore 069113
Tel: +65 6970 8035

Cosy Café At Maxwell House With Brunch And Cakes
The Food Peeps is opened by 3 friends – a chef, barista and marketer, who decided to ‘join forces’ and capitalise on past experiences.

The owners wanted a small space where they can use to experiment can churn out items for catering and delivery, almost like a central kitchen.

Some of the items on the menu include Ranch Chicken & Avo Sandwich ($14), Mushroom Melt Sourdough ($14), Spicy Clam Linguine ($14), Rendang Pasta ($15), Chicken Pesto ($14), and Carbonara ($15).

If sweets are your thing, there is a display of homemade desserts like Buttercake ($2.50), Chocolate Crepe ($5.50) Chocolate Chip Cakes ($1.50); and Peanut Butter Jelly Blueberry Waffles ($11) and Pancakes ($13).

Prices are considered reasonable.

Customers can still takeout or pick-up items from the café (calling prior would be recommended).

There is also delivery available to customers staying in the Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar (with minimum order of $20), while they are finalising details with other delivery partners. WhatsApp +65 6970 8035 to enquire.

Yes. Nylon Coffee Roasters has reopened with a brand-new look and the same great beans and java.

The coffee specialty place is quietly situated within the Everton Park public housing complex, and the quaint coffee bar and roastery is known for offering quality seasonal blends.

After the revamp, the interior looks more modern and spacious, with different pockets of sitting areas, long benches and seats for coffee drinkers to chillax a little, while maintaining their social distance.

One thing to note is Nylon Coffee has somehow kept their prices reasonable since its opening days from 2012, with a Long Black priced at $3.50, and medium White at $4.50.

The coffee menu at Nylon is always rotating depending on seasonal availability.

They work closely with coffee producers, to the extent of visiting farms and cooperatives to build better relationships with their partners and workers. Nylon Coffee Roasters (Everton Park)

Hattendo Returns With Japanese Café-Restaurant Concept
Perhaps you may remember “Hattendo”, the once-trending Japanese cream buns which had long queues outside its café at Tanjong Pagar Centre.

That café may have closed, but they have returned with a brand new “PIPES by Hattendo” concept at Dorsett Residences, very near Outram MRT Station.

During the day there is a Japanese-fusion menu along with the signature cream buns; while night time customers can expect chef’s speciality dishes.

SugarTree Gelato

Opening Hours: 12pm – 10pm (Tue – Sun), Closed Mon

Gelato Cafe With Banana Milk And Raspberry Rose Flavours At Hougang
From the team that bought you Two Bakers, SugarTree Gelato is their latest venture and features an assortment of gelato made from scratch using all-natural premium ingredients.

This is a hole-in-a-wall takeaway kiosk located within Stars of Kovan.

Single scoop retails for $4.20 and Double scoop going at $7.60, with a $0.80 top-up for Premium flavour gelato.

I was particularly intrigued by the Banana Milk, which reminded me of the famous Korean bottled beverage. The only difference is that real banana fruit goes into the gelato making process.

The owners shared that they use only ripened banana to achieve its natural sweetness, with no addition of artificial flavouring.

It was like having a real banana fruit, with a touch of creaminess. SugarTree Gelato (Hougang)

Australian Yogurt with Purple Rice Drinks

The one immediate thing I realised when drinking the Purple Rice Madness ($6.30) was, the consistency was not as thick as some of the other competitor brands.

If you always felt trouble finishing your yogurt purple rice drink, this was actually quite manageable – somewhere in between milk and yogurt. HAYO (Middle Road)
