It’s been unusually chilly in Singapore these days, and this cold weather calls for comforting, soupy dishes.
One of my favourite soup dishes has got to be bak kut teh, of which there are two types—the peppery kind, and the herbal version. Here at SethLui.com, we’ve tried our fair share of both types, though personally, I prefer the peppery Teochew-style soups that I grew up with.
Founder Bak Kut Teh is one of the bak kut teh stalls which offer peppery broth with a kick. And amidst the news of their impending closure—no thanks to the volatile F&B scene due to COVID-19—they’re offering a sweet discount of 30% off their set meals, from 17 July – 17 August 2020.
Do note that the discount will only be available for dine-in at the following outlets:

When it comes to food, everyone’s suddenly a critic. I’ve seen the online response to Founder Bak Kut Teh’s announcement of their closure, and the vitriol is…something else. Of course, with food that’s this close to our hearts, it’s only natural that it evokes strong responses.
I can’t speak for anyone else when I say I’ve tried the bak kut teh and it’s rather decent, if slightly expensive. Dining at the Balestier outlet might have helped, as that’s their original store.
Preferences aside, if you’re a regular customer or if you happen to be in the area, drop by and avail yourself of the promotion from Founder Bak Kut Teh while you can. They’ll be closing in two months’ time, after all.
