Meng Kee Fried Kway Teow – Underrated Char Kway Teow Stall At Havelock Road Food Centre

Meng Kee Fried Kway Teow 明记炒粿条 is another one of those underrated Char Kway Teow stalls in Singapore, a reason why is its location is not the most convenient to get to.

While it was previously located at Wei Xuan Eating House on Havelock Road, it has moved to the nearby Havelock Food Centre #01-07.

They are not always opened though and may close before its stipulated hours, so do look out for their Facebook for updates.

The stall used to be manned by a father-and-daughter team, but the daughter has taken over the cooking. (I didn’t try the father’s version, so have no basis for comparison.)

It is not often you still find a plate of Char Kway Teow at $3. But because the regulars here belong to the older generations, prices are still kept inexpensive.

Priced at $3, $4 and $5, this is what I would call a well-balanced plate.

I would recommend eating this freshly-hot so that you can taste the magic. There was good wok-hei with that smokiness, tasty with the sauces though slightly on the sweet side.

Customers would like this because it is well balanced, not too wet or dry, not too sweet or oily, but just nice.

There were some complaints on the cockles (too cooked) online, but I didn’t get that.

Quite satisfying, though may not warrant a trip to this part of the island for some.
