Pad Kee Mao tastes like...

Hi everyone, so I just ordered Thai food from a local restaurant. I got Pad Kee Mao with shrimp and, no offense bc I love Thai food, but it smelled like a dead animal and tasted similarly. Is the restaurant I got it from really bad or is the dish supposed to have a specific unpleasant taste/smell to it? I tried to convince myself I’m making it up but I couldn’t even eat a half of it ...
