Soon Heng Pork Noodles – Comforting Soupy Bak Chor Mee At Tanjong Pagar, Delivery Via GrabFood & Deliveroo

Talk about soupy style of Bak Chor Mee in Singapore, and those in Bedok such as Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian 兴记肉脞面 and Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee 成香肉脞麵 will come to mind.

However, Soon Heng Pork Noodles is where you can find Bedok-style Bak Chor Mee nearer town, located in a kopitiam at Tanjong Pagar.

In fact, its location is quite prominent as Shake Shack has opened diagonally across.

The original recipe of Soon Heng came from Bedok North Street 3 Block 538 (owned by the mother), and current owner Andrew has fine-tuned the recipe after listening to customers’ feedback.

A bowl is priced inexpensively at $4 and $5, considering this is along the hipster street of Keong Saik.

What you get is a ball with spring noodles, meatballs, wanton dumplings, minced meat floating in soup like clouds. Add some pork lard and a notch of chilli padi for that extra flavour and kick.

The soup is cooked with fresh pork bones and other ingredients for six to eight hours to produce that cloudy appearance, with slight sweetness.

In terms of soups, this is one of my favourites when I am seeking for something comforting.

Some customers may ask, “Why look so plain one?”

While it is generally on the light side and not as flavourful or salty as some of the other stalls, there is this clean-tasting yet still robust flavours. Pleasant, not as heavy-going yet easy to finish.

In fact, I find the feeling I get comparable to say a quality bowl of ramen.

The noodles are deliciously springy, handmade dumplings packed with soft minced meat (though I thought skin could be a little on the thick side).

Takeaway preorders are available via +65 9792 8106, while delivery is via GrabFood and Deliveroo for residents nearby.
